When I first saw MrBeast’s Feastables chocolate bars in my local supermarket here in Denmark, I knew I had to try them. As a former bean-to-bar chocolate maker, I am always curious about new chocolate products, especially those that claim to prioritize sustainable and high-quality ingredients. The buzz surrounding Feastables was intriguing, and I was eager to see how they would measure up to the standards of artisanal chocolate making. This is my MrBeast’s Feastables review.
Upon examining the Feastables bars, I noted the emphasis on sustainability and quality ingredients, which resonated with my approach to chocolate making. Who are you, and why should we trust your Feastables Review?
In 2016, I attended a talk given by Danish bean-to-bar chocolate maker Mikkel Friis-Holm, and it deeply inspired me. His journey into making sustainable chocolate was fascinating and sparked a fire within me. As a fellow food enthusiast, I was captivated by the intricate details he shared. When I asked if you could make chocolate at home, he said it was possible but expensive.
A few weeks later, while browsing Amazon, I stumbled upon a stone grinder typically used for making Daal. Little did I know, this humble tool would become a crucial part of my chocolate-making journey. This stone grinder, also known as a melanger, is essential in the chocolate-making process.
It grinds the cocoa nibs into a smooth, liquid form, which is then mixed with other ingredients to create chocolate. I ordered it from India and eagerly awaited its arrival. In the meantime, I had the privilege of visiting Mikkel’s factory, where he generously shared his knowledge and gave me cocoa beans and cocoa butter to experiment with. And so, my chocolate-making journey began.
My first test batch used cocoa beans from Colombia, creating 70% dark chocolate sweetened with muscovado sugar. The chocolate had a rich, deep flavor with hints of fruit and a smooth, velvety texture. When I brought my creation to work, my co-workers loved it and even asked to buy some. Encouraged by their feedback, I continued refining my craft.
Over the next four years, I made 58 batches of chocolate, won four international awards, created two advent calendars, and attended numerous chocolate events as a seller and speaker.
Fastables Milk Chocolate and Milk Crunch Review
- Texture: Wonderful smooth and velvety texture, which gives the bar a pleasing mouthfeel.
- Tastes like chocolate milk: The milk chocolate variant is likened to a “glass of chocolate milk”, implying a sweet and creamy flavor profile reminiscent of a classic milk-based beverage.
- Simple ingredients: These are relatively simple ingredients. The only things I wouldn’t personally put in a chocolate bar are soy lecithin and vanilla.
- The ratio of sweetness and cocoa: To me, it’s pretty sweet, which hides the taste notes. It has 32% cocoa solids, which, for an American chocolate bar, is on the high end for milk chocolate.
- Taste notes: It has notes of vanilla, cherry, and salt.
- Crispy puffed rice: The Milk Crunch variant adds a satisfying textural element, with crispy puffed rice providing a satisfying contrast to the creamy milk chocolate.
Overall, Feastables Milk Chocolate is characterized by its rich, creamy, and velvety texture. Its flavor profile is nice, with notes of vanilla, cherry, and salt, but more cocoa would have suited the bar better.
Feastables Peanut Butter Review
I must say that peanut butter and chocolate are a guilty pleasure.
- Peanut butter: A prominent and creamy peanut butter flavor, evoking the sensation of dipping chocolate into a peanut butter jar.
- Milk chocolate: This bar uses the same milk chocolate as the other milk chocolate bars from Feastables.
These taste notes work together to create a satisfying and indulgent snack experience, perfect for those who enjoy peanut butter and chocolate combinations. It is very sweet, but it works in this case.
Feastables Dark Chocolate Review
- Texture: Like the Feastables milk chocolate, it’s very smooth, has a pleasing mouthfeel, and melts great in your mouth.
- Rich and creamy flavor: A good flavor, not bitter at all. It’s a bit on the sweet side.
- Simple ingredients: These are relatively simple ingredients. The only things I wouldn’t personally put in a chocolate bar are soy lecithin and vanilla.
- Dark-ish in taste: The packaging states that it has 50% cocoa solids, which is on the low side for a dark bar. The description suggests a deeper, more intense chocolate flavor profile compared to milk chocolate.
- Taste notes: These subtle flavor notes of cherry, roasted almonds, and espresso add complexity to the dark chocolate, creating a nuanced and pleasant taste experience.
Overall, Feastables Dark Chocolate is characterized by its rich, creamy, and complex flavor profile, with notes of cherry, roasted almond, and espresso, and a smooth, indulgent texture.
Conclusion on my Feastables Review
The taste experience of Feastables chocolate bars that I was able to source is generally good because of their simplicity and clean ingredients. I wonder why they didn’t use organic ingredients, and knowing the source and sustainability of the cocoa would have been nice, too.
The chocolate bars are a bit too sweet in my mouth, and they have a lower cocoa content than I’d prefer, which affects their richness. However, the absence of non-cocoa butter fats and artificial additives makes these bars superior to many commercial alternatives, offering a more authentic chocolate experience. Overall, Feastables chocolate is satisfying, and I am sure that many people will like it.
This price is pretty high for what you get. It is not a bean-to-bar experience, but it is okay. It’s just good old consumer-grade chocolate.
